The NITRD Middleware and Grid Interagency Coordination Team (MAGIC) is conducting an in-depth examination of the impact of and challenges related to DevOps. The effort was divided into 4 sessions: (1) Definition of DevOps; (2) the significance of DevOps in the Scientific community; (3) discussion of and operational and (4) DevOps in scientific facilities.
On July 11, 2018, MAGIC began the series with talks on the definition and challenges of DevOps.

On August 1, MAGIC’s deeper dive into DevOps in the Scientific Community featured presentation by:
- “DevOps in ATLAS”, Kaushik De, Professor of Physics, University of Texas at Arlington
- “What is DevOps”, James Burke, Senior Security Architect/Engineer, Valiant Solutions
- “Education and Research Computing in DevOps”, Gregor Von Laszewski, Assistant Director of the Distributed Systems Lab, Adjunct Associate Professor of the Intelligent Systems Engineering Department, Indiana University
On September 5, MAGIC’s third session on DevOps focused on the operational challenges of DevOps, and featured speakers from both the federal government and private industry:

The fourth and final DevOps Session will focus on the role of DevOps in scientific facilities and will take place on October 3 (12 noon ET). Confirmed speakers are:

- “Software Assurance Marketplace (SWAMP) – A Continuous Assurance Platform”, Von Welch, Director and PI of Trusted CI, NSF’s Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, and Director of Indiana University’s Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research
- “SLATE – A new approach for DevOps in distributed scientific computing facilities”, Robert Gardner, Research Professor, Enrico Fermi Institute, University of Chicago
