
Ms. Meg Harmsen
Technical Coordinator, Health Information Technology Research and Development (Health IT R&D) Senior Steering Group (SSG) and Health Information Technology Innovation and Development Environment (HITIDE) Subgroup
Ms. Harmsen provides subject matter expertise, technical leadership and management, and guidance to the NITRD Program in the areas of Health Information Technology Research and Development and Health Information Technology Innovation and Development Environments. She supports the groups’ monthly meetings and workshops, to include identifying opportunities for coordination and collaboration within the NITRD Program. Ms. Harmsen also assists in the writing and editing of technical reports and planning documents (e.g., NSTC Federal Plans, workshop reports, and the annual supplement to the President’s Budget).
Before joining NCO/NITRD in November 2010, Ms. Harmsen previously worked in the private sector where she primarily managed software technical publications teams and projects, including those at BEA Systems, Inc., a middleware vendor. She is an experienced technical writer/editor/information analyst whose projects ranged from provisional patent application documentation for an e-reader device to documentation for Java application programming interfaces. Ms. Harmsen is the recipient of five technical documentation awards from the Society for Technical Communication. Earlier in her career, Ms. Harmsen managed the technical information and administrative services section at the Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory, which produced the lab’s scientific and technical publications.
Ms. Harmsen received a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Maryland and an M.C.I.S. (Masters) in Communication and Information Studies from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
