Mr. Hugh McLaurin

Technical Coordinator, High End Computing (HEC)

Mr. McLaurin provides subject matter expertise, technical leadership and management, and guidance to the NITRD Program in the area of High End Computing. He supports the HEC Interagency Working Group’s monthly meetings and workshops, and identifies opportunities for coordination and collaboration among the NITRD Program agencies. Mr. McLaurin coordinates across the NITRD Program Component Areas, working with the PCA chairs to coordinate crosscutting issues of interest to numerous NITRD focus areas. He also assists in the writing and editing of technical reports and planning documents (e.g., NSTC Federal Plans, workshop reports, and the annual supplement to the President’s Budget).

Before joining the NCO, Mr. McLaurin completed a 35-year career in the federal government, including 11 years in the Senior Executive Service. His experience includes 13 years in the Defense Department, 13 years at the Federal Aviation Administration, and nine years as Director of Engineering at the Consumer Product Safety Commission. He also spent a year on detail at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration while completing that agency’s SES Candidate Development Program. His experience includes fostering collaborative R&D efforts across organizations, federal agencies, the private sector and academia, including a broad portfolio of air traffic management R&D initiatives throughout the US and Europe.

Mr. McLaurin received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland, and his M.S. in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
